Little Big Dog Rescue

Dot's Really Old Dogs Home
Gideon doesn't know what a heartworm is. He doesn't know what a "senior" is. He doesn't know that a compassionate non-profit organization called Raising Aid For Dogs At Risk (RADAR) approved Little Big Dog Rescue's applicaton for financial assistance with the medical costs of vetting and neutering that allowed them to pull him from the Surry County, NC shelter where he had poor chances of getting out alive. He doesn't know that everything good started with RADAR, who gave the grant that saved Gideon. Thank you, RADAR!

I want to give a shout-out to a woman who saved a dog's life. Joe (Cujo) showed up stray on her farm at an inopportune time. Mother with broken hip, transitioning from hospital to skilled care to home; farm to take care of; farm animals to care for; job; family. This woman, we can call her Taunya, couldn't shrug her shoulders and let someone else maybe, if Joe was lucky, be his rescuer. She put out food for him, because he showed up everyday. She started networking him. No ACO in the county, shelter considered him hers, not a stray, no one looking for him. She couldn't keep him safe, no fenced yard, and he liked noodling around the woods in the area. One day he came home with a serious injury to his foot, I think it was a gunshot. Taunya took him to the vet and had him property treated. Still networking him. It took a village but thanks to Facebook, Joe got taken into Save The Tails and he was adopted into a dream of a family and a dream of a home.
I never met Joe but I know he is a very good dog, he is bringing happiness to a family, thanks to a woman who took a deep breath and said, "Okay... we'll see what happens."
If you see an animal in need, please take a chance. Remember the woman and the dog.

Little Big Dog Rescue

Thank you Nina and staff at LCAS!People will ask us why we transfer in animals from other counties. And there are many answers to this question. Sometimes we have room in our kennels. Sometimes we have a big adoption event coming up, and lots of demand for adoptable pets. And sometimes we hear stories like Boo’s. Our good friend Jeanne at Little Big Dog Rescue in SW Virginia was out for a drive when she saw two dogs, living tied out with plastic dog carriers as their dog houses in the bitter cold. Jeanne pulled over her car, went up to the house and, without judgment, offered the family a dog house and straw for bedding, and they accepted. As she went to set things up for the dogs, she asked the dog owner if he would consider letting her rescue find the two young dogs a new home, and he agreed. Little Big Dog Rescue then paid for both dogs to be spayed and transported to LCAS to go up for adoption.

Thanks to Jeanne’s compassion, we are happy to welcome one year old beagle mix Boo, and her sister Bell, both of whom are now looking for loving homes where they will be able to sleep indoors and be a part of the family. Thank you Jeanne for your hard work, and thank you Loudoun for supporting our lifesaving efforts, even when it means lending a hand to our friends in rural parts of the state.
